The landscape according to the blind people. The participation of the other senses in the valuation of the landscape.
The present work begins in December 2015 with the axis in the valuation of the landscape as a tool for territorial planning. In the process carried out during the course of the DoctA modules, the reading of various authors and the reflection, the work focuses on the perceptual assessment of the landscape, considering that it is defined, perceived and understood with the participation of all senses. In contrast to the dominant conception of landscape that refers to “what you see” and “how you see it”, underestimating the participation of the other senses in the understanding and perception of the landscape.
This opens the possibility of deepening an axis of research focused on the participation of the other senses valuing the landscape, allowing defining essential aspects of the landscape both for the conception, understanding and protection of the same as for planning and projection.
Addressing the perceptual assessment of the landscape from the phenomenology (set of manifestations or phenomena that characterize a process or something else) is intended to explore the participation of the other senses in the assessment of the landscape, taking the vision from the central axis, for which work is with blind people, seeking to understand the essential aspects of the landscape that are perceived and understood with touch, hearing, smell and taste.
Juhani Pallasmaa (2016) considers that the problems arise from the moment in which the eye is isolated from its natural interaction with the rest of the sensory modalities and that the other senses are eliminated and inhibited, thereby reducing and restricting each time plus the experience of the world to the sphere of vision. This separation and reduction fragments the complexity, the globality and the innate plasticity of the perceptual system reinforcing the sensation of alienation and alienation.
To carry out the study with blind people we will work in the Julián Baquero Educational Resource Center, special education school, with different ways of approaching the perception of the landscape with the other senses, including individual interviews, field visits, artistic expression, expression bodily. In all cases, they will be carried out with the contribution and supervision of the specialist professionals that make up the teaching and management staff of the Julián Baquero Center.
It is proposed to include in the research work actions of an extension nature with which a link is generated and concrete contributions from the academy to the institution with consequent feedback from the institution to the academic work.
