Professional career and research experience
Ed Wall is the Academic Leader Landscape at the University of Greenwich. His design and research work focuses on cities, landscape and public space. He studied landscape architecture in Manchester (MMU), urban design at City College New York (CUNY) and is a PhD candidate on the Cities Programme at the London School of Economics. He became a chartered landscape architect (CMLI) in 2001. Ed has written widely, including articles for journals Urban (2013), Landscape (2011; 2012) and Topos (2011) and essays for books Questo Metropolitan Architecture (2015), Revising Green Infrastructure: Concepts Between Design and Nature (2014), Educating Architects (2014) and Infrastructural Urbanism: Addressing the In-Between (2011). In 2009 Ed co-authored, with Tim Waterman, Basics Landscape Architecture: Urban Design. He is currently co-editing, with Tim Waterman for Routledge Landscape and Agency following the Landscape and Critical Agency Symposium hosted at University College London (UCL) in 2012. Ed has lectured at Central St. Martins, Alcala School of Architecture and Politecnico di Milano and has been a design critic at Columbia University GSAPP, City College New York, the Architecture Association and the Bartlett (UCL). Ed was formerly a Senior Lecturer at Kingston University and is currently a Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano.
In 2007 Ed founded Project Studio, a platform for design and research collaborations focused on cities, landscape and public space. Studio collaborations include site-based research, theoretical speculations and detailed built commissions, such as: with the Unusual Suspects Festival (2014), Architecture Foundation and Royal Academy (2013), the Biennale of Landscape Urbanism (2010), the London Festival of Architecture (2008) and a series of international design competitions. Works have been exhibited at the Van Alen Institute, Royal Academy, EME3, Building Centre, Garden Museum, Stephen Lawrence Gallery and Des Moines Art Center.
