Social Warmth in Ottakring

Friday, 22 November 2019, 14:00 @ Meeting Point Campus Gußhaus, Gußhausstraße 25 – 29, 1040 Vienna

Social Warmth System in Ottakring “Ottakringer Straße” is a street which is loud, diverse and in the middle of two districts. The area went through a renewal process over the last years due to a EU funding on implementing a new district heating system beneath the street lead us to have a closer look on the involvement of the residents. Following our own metaphorical-sustainable heating system within the district, we were looking for more than technical warmth.

Our walk leads along stories of social warmth. Starting from an indoor pool between apartments, we will see, hear and smell the latest trends of the district. Amongst others we will learn more about olives on the Brunnenmarket, the weight of the conversion of roof tops, participation and the limits of it. On the way the participants will pass by a bath, a “Wiener Gemeindebau”, a school, the Ottakringer Straße, the Staud’s manufactory and the Yppenplatz.

Founded 2013 in Weimar, Kollektiv Raumstation has emerged as an interdisciplinary platform for motivated city makers in Berlin and Vienna as well. Raumstation is a catalyst to rethink and revive the urban space, to play with it and evolve it into a place for exchange and shared experiences. The collective works with experimental explorations of space, artistic and activist interventions and activating processes. Within its work, the role of inhabitants is crucial: as daily life experts, as recipients and initiators of change, as makers – as those, who ultimately matter. It collects stories, initiates dialogue and change; it dreams of wastelands, gives back time and lays at beaches of rushing city traffic.
