Academic team – The dialectical combination of continuity and change

Past of the Visiting Professorship Program

In order to gain inspiration for content from such fields as planning theory and practice as well as from urban studies, the City of Vienna has funded the establishment of this unique Visiting Professorship Program for nine entire years between 03/2009 and 02/2018. In the first funding phase (2009-2011) the City of Vienna Visiting Professorship (CoVVP) for Urban Culture and Public Space consisted of an annually changing Visiting Professor team (Junior-Senior model for the combination of theory and practice). In the second funding phase (2012-2014), the CoVVP at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space were awarded annually to one Visiting Professor. The Visiting Professor has cooperated with the centre’s permanent staff as an Academic Team. This new model has allowed a systematic combination of manifold perspectives on urban culture and public space with an ongoing and systematic grouping of a multitude of perspectives in post-disciplinary urban research. This model continued during a third funding phase (2015-2017).

Presence of the Visiting Professorhip Program

In 2018, the TU Wien has taken the opportunity to further continue the Visiting Professorship Program at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space through installing a TU Wien Visiting Professorship  Program for the summer term 2018 (TUWVP).

Future of the Visiting Professorship Program

The recently installed KTH & TU Wien Joint Visiting Professorship Program in Urban Studies (2019-2021) is a new innovative cooperation between the Centre for the Future of Places (CFP, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Urban Culture and Public Space (SKuOR, TU Wien, Austria). The program is jointly funded by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology and TU Wien, and is organized around key challenges regarding contemporary processes of urbanization on an international scale. The program will officially start on 1st October 2018.

Accordingly, an expert in contemporary social, cultural or political theory of urbanization (Know Why), or an expert in experimental and innovation-oriented research and teaching relating to urban design or urban planning (Know How) will work together with the established team in Vienna to develop a joint research, teaching, and networking program at the international level on the main topic for the academic year 2021 (October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021). The candidate should have previously held an associate professor, guest professor or full professor position and should be authorized to supervise doctoral students.

In keeping with the Plan for the Advancement of Women, TU Wien aims to increase the proportion of women, particularly in leadership roles and in scientific and artistic staff positions, and expressly encourages qualified women to submit expressions of interest. Female candidates whose qualifications are equal to the best-qualified candidate will be given priority unless another candidate has sufficient grounds for being given priority. In the course of TU Diversity-Management, TU Wien seeks to prevent social discrimination of minorities, improve equal opportunities and achieve a positive overall atmosphere at the TU Wien.

The Installation of the Visiting Professor 2021 position, to be filled at TU Wien by October 1, 2020, is supported with funds from KTH + TU Wien in the amount of 20,000 € per year. This amount includes gross salary, social insurance costs and employer’s costs for the installation of the position. The filling of the position is subject to the release of the provisions made in the contractual agreements between TU Wien and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm in June 2018.
