summer term 2013

Urban culture, public space, and knowledge – Education and difference

The module addresses the 2013 SKuOR annual issue of Urban culture, public space, and knowledge—education and difference, by focusing on the agency of public space for building new relationships, meanings, and knowledge among diverse urban inhabitants and activities. Specifically, it focuses on how mixing of people, ideas, activities, and cultures can occur in public spaces (both institutionalized and insurgent), how such mixing enables production and sharing of knowledge, and how such transcultural knowledge and understanding in turn informs the making of cities, districts, and neighborhoods.
